Hi,

I've been looking all over for help on this but to no avail. Hopefully someone here can shed some light on this.

I have a DirecTV TiVo model HR10-250 (High Definition). I would like to be able to archive my recorded programs and put them on DVD, mainly because the HD programs take up so much space on the TiVo unit. Unfortunately this unit does not have network support. It would be ideal if I could record in 16:9 widescreen format.

I've been looking for a video card, but I can't figure out what would work for this type of setup. I don't need to have a tuner on it, just a two-way connection to my laptop or desktop so I can tranfer the programs, convert them to an ISO or multimedia file and burn them to DVDs.

Can anyone recommend a good card that will accomplish this?

Probably not exactly what you need.
If you google: "HD video capture card" you will find some but they cost several thousand $.

I recently purchased a USB attached video capture device, which comes with software, for my latpop. An external unit can be purchased, again weith software for video capture, and they offer a range of input options.

I purchased mine from BestBuy, but they are offered on NewEgg.com as well.

Thanks for the response. Do you know of specific models that will accomplish this? Which feature should I look for in order to capture recorded programs?

I'm not so much interested in capturing the video in HD, but I would prefer to have it in 16:9 format.

Well, the unit I purchased is a USB connected device, which I am not sure you would want. However, the makers of the hardware and software can be found at www.pinnaclesys.com.

Some of the relevant features are here:

MPEG2 encoding/decoding is enabled.
MPEG4 encoding/decoding is enabled.
DivX encoding/decoding is enabled.
Sony PSP/Apple IPod encoding is enabled.
Dolby 2 channel downmix is enabled.
Direct to DVD recording is enabled.

Although I have not used the software, my product also has a " Videodownloader " which apparently can capture any streaming or tv generated video for storage on the PC.

The company has a range of devices which do similar things to this system, so I would focus on theirs and related products, not the one I purchased for the laptop USB connection. From another thread, here is a product which may offer some features you are looking for:
