Mozilla Firefox 2.0 RC3

Well IE 7 came out, apparently challenging Firefox.

So I decided to pick up the beta of Firefox before I tried IE7.

It's like Firefox 1.5 (or what ever version the current one is) except it has sort of a Vista look. New graphic interface, pretty neat design. To me it seems to load a tiny bit faster. I haven't tried too much with it, but it acts the same as 1.5.

Overall, not too much but the graphics is kind of neutral so it isn't as flashy so your eyes won't catch the tabs or anything.

The installation was easy, I basically went to the Firefox site, looked around found the link to test Firefox 2.0 RC3

You close the browser, it installs, same style of install as the 1.5, asks custom or standard, I went standard. I loaded up for the first time and the Firefox page loads but has my homepage already tabbed in the second tab. (unlike the 1.5, each update loads up and the firefox page loads straight up with out google.)

It's easy to install, overall the same as 1.5, besides graphic interface, haven't really done extensive surfing, youtube runs fine. so does google videos.

10/10 ease of use from 1.5, no bugs yet so I'm not complaining. But might be worth it to wait till the final version comes out.

One thing I noticed was that it has a built in spell check. So anything I type that I misspell a red line pops under it and you can right click it and fix it. Something new and I think a bit annoying but useful at times like when you are typing in a forum. Grammar check next!

Alright so my comp crashed, actually it just reset itself while I was playing a game. I had firefox open, as usual, and gmail running. anyways my pc resets, perhaps graphic card overload and i reboot. I load up Firefox and it asks if i want to restore last session or start new session. i clicked restore and it loads up firefox with all the tabs and is still logged in (usually it logs out when i close the browser).

I just thought that was a neat feature that you won't lose your websites that you have opened and haven't bookmarked if the pc crashes.

I downloaded FF 2.0 this afternoon, and have not yet found any changes, significant or not, except they added an easier way to check a tab and accidentally close that tab...yes, I made that mistake a couple of times already. It used to be tougher to accidentally close a tab with the version of FF I have been using for the last 6 months.

I've just installed 2.0.
Except for Bookmark Backup all my extensions either made the transfer or had updates waiting.
So far so good.
No problems with the computer though I did keep the Moz report extension for screen crashes.

I use 2.0 and so far I love it. I do miss how they removed the Dictionary.com easy feature in the upper-right, though!

that's alright... compensate by learning the google shorthand.

In the top right, type "define:" followed by your word. :)

That works too. One other thing I dislike about 2.0 is that when I begin to type something in quick reply before this kontera stuff finishes loading, it seems to stop my typing, and when I hit backspace brings me back several pages. Very annoying.

You can get rid of the Kontera stuff (Intellitext) by buying a supporter subscription.

Been using FF 2.0 for a few months now, but I really didn't see what it had to offer until I used a theme & many useful extensions. Decent basic how-to article (http://www.maximumpc.com/article/how_to_optimize_firefox)

Firefox 2.0 is so good, imo, that at this point I plan on never going back to IE if I don't have to. The only reason I use IE is if a page doesn't work in FF, such as Windows Update (imagine that!)

There's an extension called IE Tab.
I use it just for that since it will make designated web pages open in IE.

Been using FF since i first came across it one ver before 1.5 and it seems like I haven't had any win98se glitches. Like all of a sudden win98se is the most stable os on earth. lol Always loved Firefox speed and feeling of security while surfing or online shopping. The lack of popups is top w/me. Love being able to switch themes, although when I find one I like do not tend to switch. Haven't tried IE lately. Will take a peek when I upgrade to windows XP.

I have used nothing BUT FF since I found ver. 1

the only time i ever open IE is to play Yahoo Music channels (i love their channel coffeehouse, listen to it at my desk, listening right now in fact) because the pop-up window player for yahoo won't launch with FF... now, is there a way to launch that in FF using these extensions you guys are talking about?

Vinny, I just tried that channel on Yahoo with the IE Tab extension. Loads up fine. :)
