I want to get a wireless card for gaming and i dont know anything about them. Some have antenneas, some don't. Some have gsm (which i only know as a phone term, i assume their talking about bandwidth) and others dont. Any help and explination on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Quick question to get the ball rolling! Is wireless the only option...or could you possibly run a long cable to the computer?

The reason I ask is because with whatever wireless kit you go for you are still at risk of dissapointment when gaming is concerned.

Thats good information. I have been skeptical about wireless, especially with gaming, so i think ill save the money and make sure that a cord'll reach. Another question, I have heard that hooking it straight to the motherboard is bad in some cases. I know my motherbeard (gagabyte k8n5ipvm9-rh) isn't the... most reliable. What do you thnk i should do?

What do you mean by hooking it straight to the motherboard? Plugging it into the Ethernet port on the motherboard?

yeeahh? I havent hooked a desktop up since 56k was big, and I don't remember how it happened then. I just remember coming across something a week ago that was talking about it.

If the motherboard has an ethernet network card built in then use it...there's no reason not to.

Do you have a router or just a broadband modem? Do you have to share the connection with other computers?

Me and my GF, but she just does stupid chick stuff and myspace's a lot.(don't tell her I said that) I'll have rein of the internet though. I'm getting a router? in. Probably comcast highspeed (i don't know what comcast is for you, but its the really stingy one that has horrible prices but is the most reliable.) Is broadband modem compariable? I really just want to get the best for the buck. If it supports my bad gaming habits I'm a happy camper.

you have a few options:

DSL - Phone company
cable modem - Cable company
FIOS - Provided by verizon. its fiber optic run to your home check to see if its available in your area, this service will provide the best bang for the buck if its available in your area.:

a router is usually a seperate device that you can add. so for example, you will get a cable modem from comcast, then you connect the router to that modem and connect all your pc's to the router.
