My daughters Emachine model T-2692 has stopped displaying on her monitor. I've tried another monitor and it does the same thing. I suspect the on board video card has gone out. My question is, will I be able to install a PCI video card and fire it up without disabling the on board card that I obviously cannot get to without working on board video ? I did notice a slight burning smell when I first opened the cover but the fan runs.

The E-Machine T-2692 has some widespread PSU problems - I would suspect it had an adverse affect on your motherboard. Are there any broken capacitors or otherwise obviously bad happenings (ie. like the burning smell) when booting the computer while the side panels are off?

It looks fine with the cover off although after clearing the dust from the case and attempting to start it up to check for beeps now, it will not do anything. Seems like its probably hosed. I assumed with the smell last night, it was more than likely a goner. :(

Check for beep? Does the computer beep when booting up?
