Cooling for Intel CPU

I have an INTEL motherboard- D955XBK- Pent.4 640 Prescott LGA 775 3.20GHZ Could someone suggest a non water cooler/fan for this setup?

If you're not going to use the stock Intel heatsink/fan unit, take a look at HSFs from Zalman and Thermalright.

You're CPU is running cooler than mine. Intel has an update for their software for alerting to heat problems that has a higher tolerance. You are well below the upper limit.

I did update my Intel Bios and down loaded the latest Intel desktop utilities. I wanted to protect as well as extend the life of the CPU. I dont mind the noise. My upper limit has been changed to 160Deg F. Right now , my temp is 156 with no alerts and the fan speed is 2700 rpm. alls well, but my fan used to kick in at high speed [4500+rpm] at this temperature when I first built this unit. Intel answered my e-mail and sent back some links for me to read about them raising thermal limits, but no reference to a new fan. Should I ask for one? I know of no way to test the fan or put it in high speed to see if it will fail. Is there any way to do this? Thanks for all the help.

I was wrong. I read one of your older posts for temps. I'm running 120F right now with the same processor with the internet and a movie running. I also live in southern Mexico where the ambient temps are fairly high. I have the stock fan and heatsink, one fan on an intake tube above the processor, one exhaust fan, and a PSU with a large exhaust fan. Oh, my case is a cheap generic case. It's what is available here.

Are you sure your heatsink is clean of dust and you've got enough, but not too much, thermal paste? I think your temps are too high for nothing to be wrong.

Right now, my temp is 156 with no alerts and the fan speed is 2700 rpm. .Your 640 is running at 69C?!? Are you sure the LGA775 heatsink is installed properly? I have a 631 that idles around 40C and maybe gets up to 46C under a mild load. If you installed the heatsink with the motherboard already mounted to the case, I'd remove it and reinstall the heatsink following the instructions found here. Has anyone here ever run any dvd's with DVD Shrink? Or downloaded movies from the internet? These will really heat up any CPU. I also notice high temps when my son plays PC games like Lego Star Wars 2, for a couple of hours. If I had applied the thermal grease improperly , why would it suddenly give me problems after 7 months? I still havent heard my fan crank up over 2600 rpm. I just downloaded latest Intel Desktop Control Center. You can select auto or manual fan control. When I move the slider control to max, in manual mode, my fan only goes up to 2600 rpm. I have to check with them to see if my fan should go to max speed, when doing that. If so, then I have a fan that is not going into high speed anymore. Thanks for your help.
