New case, same parts

Hey guys this is mostly speculation, I probably won't do it, but I'm thinking about perhaps getting a new case for cooling purposes. I want to keep everything I have currently but how would I go about uninstalling it from the old case and installing it in the new case (the order of it, like mobo first, hdd 2nd, etc.)

A home built one or a name brand?

If you're a real novice at working on computers I would get a digital camera and take a few pictures of everything inside your current PC. Take pictures of the power connectors and the connections to the motherboard. That way you have something to reference when you're trying to connect things back up in the new case.

When removing parts I would just start with the easiest to reach stuff first and probably remove the motherboard last.

When installing the parts into the new case I would install the motherboard first and go from there. Just work logically.

If you've never opened up a computer before:
Take pictures like Cricket said, so you don't end up with a bunch of stuff that you dont know where it goes.

If you somewhat know what you are doing:
1. Remove power cables from everything
2. Unscrew PSU from the back of the case, pull gently out
3. Remove data cables from hard drive, and optical drive(s)
4. Unscrew and GENTLY remove hard drive and optical drive(s)
5. Unscrew and GENTLY remove any expansion cards.
6. Unhook any jumpers connected to the motherboard from the case (Power, Reset, USB)
7. Unscrew motherboard screws, gently lift up motherboard and remove it.

That should be everything, forgive me if I forgot something, I dont have my desktop in front of me.

It's a heavily modded brand name, does that make a difference?

Yes, because some brand name computers use proprietary setups that cannot be moved into any other case. Can you post the specs, and model number of the machine?

It looks like you built it based on the specs, or someone else did at least. Anyway, I would remove the RAM, video card, hard drives, optical drives, PSU, and motherboard - all in that order. Good luck.
