I am trying to reinstall XP from a SP1 OEM disk. The problem is that a damaged SP2 is currently on the PC and the Microsoft site will not offer the SP2 download. The plan is to integrate the SP2 package into the version on disk as per MS article "How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP".

Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

What are you trying to do? Simply install XP SP2 or are you trying to recover your previous SP2 installation.

A more efficient way is to create your own XP SP2 CD. First download the network install of SP2 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
Then follow the directions here to slipstream your SP1 installation disk into SP2: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp

Then install XP.

The network version implies that it is to be downloaded for multiple computers. It contains the entire SP2 update package and not just selective components. It is frequently more reliable than using windowsupdate.
