I want to reinstall XP on my second HD that is all ready formatted and used as a storage area. Will XP overwrite or reformat this HD or can it be installed with out losing my files and programs?
Thanks

You can have XP use a filesystem intact provided you prompt XP not to repartition or format the partition but to use it intact. If there are files in the default location (\WINDOWS\) they will be deleted .. all the other directories and files will left intact.

Thanks for the info. When you refer to default are you refering to My Computer > documents & settings>Default user > various files?
Thanks again Thomsign

No .. the default installation for XP is in the WINDOWS folder of your drive. If you previously have anything in your WINDOWS folder it will get overwritten by the installation. The rest of the files will be left alone provided you prompt XP NOT to repartition or format
