I just reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Win98 version 1 for the first time in 3 years. For some reason my sound card (Turtle Beach Montego Bay) and speakers (Altec Lansing) aren't recognized by Windows as being present. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi kahuna1994,

First of all, welcome to PC Mech!

Have you installed the drivers for the sound card? Right click on My Computer and choose Properties, then on the Device Manager tab check for any yellow exclamation points. There should be one for your sound card, just install the drivers off of the provided CD or check the official drivers (http://www.voyetra-turtle-beach.com/site/sales_support/ftp.asp) page. Also, your speakers are not a problem, they should not be detected because they are not hardware, it's only the sound card that needs drivers installed. Hope that helps.

Even though I like the sound and interface of the Turtle Beach Cards, they can be a little bit of a bear to get installed. If I have to reformat, I always pull out all my cards and do everything as if I am working on a new build.
You definitely have a driver problem, and since you did not list the type of Motherboard or processor you have, it could be that you need to install you Board drivers, especially if it has a VIA chipset or you need to install the sound card drivers.
The best bet for the TB Sound Card s go to the link below and get the updated driver pack, unzip it to a new folder on your "C" drive and then from the Device Manager click on the one labelled Multimedia Device (This is the master controller for that card) and then update driver. Direct windows then to the new folder where you unzipped the drivers. After this install the rest of the supporting software from your original disk.

46m2_9x.zip This is the driver pack you want, unless you do not need sound blaster emulation, in which case use 46m2_9x1.zip
