I always thought that the CPU fan blows air away from the HSF... then I started thinking wouldn't it blow at the HSF? Can someone clear this up? I was feeling the air and couldn't tell. Thanks, I know this is about as newbish as it gets.

If your on stock cooler, the fan blowing/pushing air down into the base of the heatsink. In other words its sucking air from your case and spreading it over the heatsink.

Am I understanding correctly?

...I'm not sure, but I do believe there are some that blow away. As my infinity made a point of saying that the air was blown in, not out.

...I'm not sure, but I do believe there are some that blow away.Yes, there are a few brands that are designed to blow air away from the heatsink (Alpha being one of them) but the majority of heatsink fans will blow air down onto the heatsink.
