I am building a my own computer for the first time ever. I am really excited about it and I have read alot of things to try and learn more about how. I've gone ahead and purchased the majority of the parts that I will be using, but I suddenly realized that I may not have fully checked all of the compatibility issues for the parts. I was hoping that someone could help me understand if these components are compatible.

Case: Antec Sonata II with 450-watt power supply
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2G - Socket AM2 - L2=1Mb
Motherboard: MSI K9N Platinum
RAM: Twin 2GB pc6400 DDR2 800Mhz (Corsair)
Hard Drive(s): Western Digital 250GB 7.2Krpm SATA 3G/s (OEM) (Two of these)

I'm pretty sure that the sockets all work, I just don't know if the bus speeds are compatible.

Also, one other question about compatibility: I want to get an internal DVD RW. I notice that some of them on websites say specifically "internal SATA" DVD burners. Do I have to get a SATA DVD? How does that work?

I hope that all of these components play nicely together :). I wanted to build a really fast PC that works well for cheap and so far I've purchased everything except for the DVD burner and it's only $750!! :)

Please let me know how I'm doing and what problems I might have with component compatibility.

Thanks!

I noticed you didn't include a video card. You can check MSI's website for support for the memory. Also you don't have to purchase SATA optical drives. IDE drives will work just fine.

If you get a high powered one for gaming then the 450 watt Antec PSU may not be enough. Also, one other question about compatibility: I want to get an internal DVD RW. I notice that some of them on websites say specifically "internal SATA" DVD burners. Do I have to get a SATA DVD? How does that work?

You can get a Lite-On DVD burner for less than $35.
