hmm...

Hello, :)
I have a PLUS1080AMG with the original True430 PSU and Asus P4P800 Deluxe running Windows XP SP2. My Sandisk 256 MB USB drive is does not light up or is recognized when plugged into the front USB. The USB drive does work with the back USB drives directly connected to the motherboard. Also, my USB mouse (Logitech MX300) works fine on the front USB drives. What is wrong? My digital camera and other USB drives also do not work with the front USB drives.

First, I don't think you should be bumping after just over an hour...you might get some mods mad.
Second, I don't think this is the right place to post. I believe they have a more specific area for thing like flash drives. Also, since it might not be the drive, you should have used general hardware. I have to say this has NOTHING to do with building a PC. (Therefore the people here trying to give advice to people build PCs, will most likely just skip your thread.

:p
With that stated...lets move onto your problem! So your saying that the only thing that will work on your front drives is the mouse. well...my only guess would be that the front USB wants drivers to be installed before the device is connected. i know this makes very little sense. But that would be my only guess.

Look in the Device manager/Hardware and check to see if there are any yellow explanation marks by any thing listed under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

Are you sure the front usb ports are even connected into the proper place on the motherboard? Just because they are there in front does not mean they are connected up to anything, my hunch is that they are not even connected.

ktkendall...no offense but you clearly didn't read his post very carefully. :p
He says that his mouse works on the front ports. Therefore meaning that they are connected.

My bad, but I would still go in and check to see if the front usb ports are connected correctly then because of the fact that nothing else but the mouse works in there.

well, the light does not go on so it does not show up under device manager or disk management. the only question mark is for "Class for PdiPorts devices" which is a problem related to my Hyundai L90D+ 19" LCD monitor. the stick does not light up. also, I checked the manuals for both the case and mobo, and then the wiring. Nothing seems out of place. Strange.
Update: just today, I contacted Antec about the problem and they are sending me new front usbs. They did not explain what was wrong with it though. Who knows!
Be careful - the 865PE chipset has a weakness - hot plugging devices into the front ports can blow the Southbridge chip. I think I'd get a powered USB hub (or just an extension cable) and plug it into one of the rear ports and not use the front ports at ALL.

what do you mean blow? as in blow up?
i hope nothing blows up. i got an entire front usb + firewire cable in the mail from Antec. After installing it, I can now read my USB drive in the front. yeah!
Blow up as in zap the chip and render the motherboard inoperative. It doesn't go BOOM or catch on fire.
