View Full Version : 2.1 sound card and mobo issue... please help...

this sound card (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16829102006) says on its manufacturers page (http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=669&product=15853&nav=systemRequirements) that it needs a 2.1 PCI slot. on this mobo (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813121035) it doesn't say it has a 2.1 PCi slot... can i still use this sound card? i know this mobo has a built in audio but still... please help... thanks!

can i still use this sound card?Yes, that sound card will work on that motherboard. Be sure to disable the on-board sound in the BIOS.

I hate asking my own question on somebody elses thread but it just happens to flow with this thread.

If you add a sound card do you always have to disable the on-board sound? or is it card specific?
(I added an X-fi Platinum, but did not disable my P5W DH Duluxes built in sound...bad idea)

According to my manual on my Asus board(in my sig) the on-board audio is disabled if nothing is plugged into the on-board jacks. To be sure what your status is, check the BIOS.

It should not matter which PCI slot you plug that sound card into.

If you can keep it away from other components, air flow and temps will be better.

You have to use the standard PCI slots (the long white ones).so which PCI slot am i going to plug it into?I wouldn't install it in the standard PCI slot closest to the PCI-Express x16 slot (they may share resources).

Install it in the middle PCI slot or the one at the edge of the motherboard.
