My dad is having a laptop problem, where everytime he boots up he get's a floppy disk drive error. He can press f1 to go into setup or f2 to boot to windows. Windows works fine. He took the floppy out and he still get's the message. The laptop is a fijitsu (excuse the spelling).

UPDATE: I tried removing the floppy drive through bios, and I didn't get the error message anymore. Do you think the floppy drive is shot? I tested to see if it was the bay, but that works fine.

Is there any error number related to the Floppy when it isn't found?
Usually 40 no floppy detected - 80 controller bad 00 onboard controller can't communicate - those are AWARD error numbers so they may do or not do apply for the Futjisu ..

is the floppy set to 1.44 / 3'1/2 in the bios? when booting up the computer does the floppy light come on and also can you hear the floppy head is searching for the disk - usually floppies are very loud when the bios sends the REQUEST to the floppy to detect if there is one in the computer or not..

So if the floppy light doesn't show but the floppy is enabled in the bios then you stay a good chance that the floppy is death,.

One other thing is there any kind of setting to switch between floppies in the bios = A -B then disable it.And also if you ahve READ WRITE ACCESS in the bios set it to disabled - even I think this isn't the source but just to cut out all possibilities.

Hope this helps
