I recently installed a program called Icon Extractor. After learning how to use it, I uninstalled it...realising I wouldn't use it for anything. When it uninstalled, the contents of an icon library that I use for most of my desktop icons was deleted. I found the collection online and downloaded it. The folders in the collection are regular folders with .ico files in them. The folder that had my other library in it had the extension ".icl" . When I try to change a desktop icon, and browse to this new folder (I inserted it in C:/All Icons), I get a message that "Windows cannot find (the file)". How can I use these icon files...do I have to change the folder that they in to a ".icl" file??
please help.......

you or the program you referring about can not DELETE the Icons of Windows because those are included in files like shell32.dll moricons.dll and others.

What you have to do is using either SFC to restore the affected files or use TweakUI and repair the Icon folder - as for your desktop you will need to right click then properties then Effects and there select the Icon and then clcik on DEFAULT ICON this will restore the default icons of your desktop - if the programs had changed the associations of the ICONS then use the REPAIR option of TWEAKUI to repair Associations...

Hopt this helps

thanks for the reply...
the program actually did delete the library I mentioned (not a windows directory) because it associated the library with itself...thus being able to take along in the uninstall.
I did dl and install microangelo...this took care of all the problems I was having trying to use .ico files...
great program...makes customising and creating icons very simple and easy.
