First build up and running ... What Next?

Hey guys,

thanks to the help of a lot of the people on here I have my first build up and running. I'm currentyl installing OS. What else do I need to do?

The tutorial talks about going into CMOS and monitroing the temps... How do you do this?

ALso people have said I should partition my HDD... what is the benefit of this and how do I do this?

You must go to the BIOS to check the temps. Pree F1 or DEL upon startup. I actually discourage going any further until this is done. Check all drives as well.

ok should I abort the OS installation?

I've been in BIOS several times but I don't really know what to do. All I did was change the boot order to oPcial drive...

So what should I do?

Well unfortunately Ths OS is formatting and I can't stop it... WHat the hell should I do?

Everything seems pretty hot. not scroching, but definitely more than just warm. Should the GPU be warm?

What else do I need to do?After you install the OS you have to install the drivers from the motherboard CD and then the drivers for the other devices you've installed (like the video card). Install your security software (anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc...), then get on-line and update Windows and your security software.The tutorial talks about going into CMOS and monitroing the temps... How do you do this?Read the motherboard manual. There is a whole section covering the BIOS. There will be a section on PC Health or something similar and you can monitor your temps from there. As long as the CPU temps don't go over 65C you can continue. If the CPU temps do go over 65C you'll have to turn off the computer and check to see if you've installed the heatsink properly.ALso people have said I should partition my HDD... what is the benefit of this and how do I do this?You must create at least one partition and format it (this is done during the Windows installation) but if you want to create an extended partition and have logical drives in it, that's up to you. If you created one large partition using the whole hard drive when you first started to install Windows you can forget about making an extended partition with logical drives. Unless you see smoke and flames, don't worry about it.Should the GPU be warm?Yes...the GPU on the video card will generate a lot of heat...that's normal. Unless it bursts into flames, don't worry about it.

Reminds me of an older Compaq I was fixing for my dad, the Video Card got so hot it kind of burned itself up.
