I'm trying to install Cool 3D Production Studio and I can't. The installer freezes when preparing the installation at this point:

I've searched generally on the internet for a solution (Google), I have searched on Ulead's support website, I have tried different tricks I know, like disabling the Antivirus, the Windows Defender, closing unnecessary programs, etc. but nothing helps. I have installed the same exact file to another computer with no problems. However, I cannot install it to my home computer. I am thinking the problem is related to the Installshield. I can see the package decompresses the installation files in my temp folder (c:\documents and settings\bob\local settings\temp). I also went to the Installshield engine and drivers support website looking for help, but their suggestion to upgrade the installshield engine did not make any difference. I left the installshield box there without touching it for hours just to make sure it wasn't going to suddenly start moving, but it was just frozen there. While it is frozen, there is no hard drive activity at all, clicking "Cancel" does not do anything, but I can still click, open and close other windows and programs without problems. I can move the installshield box around the screen and I can even click the X on the corner to close the Installshield window and I will get the box saying "This program is not responding" giving me the choice to "End Now". This is the only way I can close the Installshield box.

I don't know what else to try. It is really frustrating that this installation is so stubborn.

I have a Pentium D 2.8Ghz dual-core system with 1GB PC4300 DDR2 memory, 80GB SATA hard drive (with 30GB of free space), two 16X DVD-RW drives, ATI All-in-Wonder 2006 video card, HDTV Wonder card, Linksys 54g WiFi PCI card, ASUS motherboard with built-in AC-97 and High Def surround sound, built-in Firewire ports and two built-in ethernet ports.

I am running Windows XP w/SP2, with all the most recent Microsoft updates (they come in automatically), I also have a lot of other software installed like Photoshop CS2, Sony Vegas 6, DVD Architect 3, PowerDVD 6, Nero 6.6, AutoDesk 3D Studio Max 8, Quicktime, Windows Media Player 10, Real Player 10, Adobe Audition 1.5, Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 1.5, Windows Defender, Symantec Antivirus Enterprise 10, ATI Multimedia Center, and several other minor software packages. Too many to list here....

I've never had a problem installing software on this computer before and the last program I installed was Autodesk 3D studio Max 8 and that went without a glitch!

Any ideas on why the stupid Installshield is freezing?

Is it just that program?
If you try to install anything else do you have the same problem?
If it's just that program then it, not your computer is the problem and a new trial down load might be the solution.
If you have the same problem repeatedly then your XP install needs repair.

I don't have that problem installing other programs. It is only that one. I re-downloaded the trial and still have the same problem.

UPDATE: It just occurred to me to create another user account on Windows XP, so I did that and logged in using the other account and tried to install COOL 3D again and it worked! It is now up and running! I realize this is a workaround rather than the solution, so I am still clueless as to why the installation was freezing when using my regular user name, especially when I had the same startup programs running under the other user name as well. It must be something weird going on with my registry or my user profile.

Needless to say, both my account and the other user account I created have administrator access/permissions in Windows XP.

Weird....but like they say "as long as it works...." :)

Clean out your temps folder in case there's something in it that's sitting around causing this.
I checked the compatibility list but no luck there.
Ask at the Cool3D forum if any of your already installed programs have conflicts with Cool3D or need to be installed in a certain order after it to avoid problems.
