Any Dvorak users out there? Or others?

I'm a qwerty but i have a few questions. I have never seen a person useing a Dvorak keyboard, or other layouts, only heard about people. And last week in class we talked briefly about keyboards, why i can't remember now. But i just want to know what its like to use something other than qwerty.

Is it really faster?

How hard is it to live in a qwerty world?

Last question, why are we still using something that was designed to slow typing down?

Yes Dvorak keyboards result in faster and more accurate typing, once you retrain your touch typing skills, and that's the problem.

Yes he does use Dvorak... there is somebody else here using it, but off the top of my head I can't remember who.

I figure I'm young, and my mind isn't quite set in my ways, so I'll give the Dvorak layout a try :)

I remember the first digital toy I had when I was a child had a little keyboard... ordered alphabetically :)

log in as admin and change the layout to dvorak.

i know of one person who uses it and she swears by it (after the learning curve).

She is a professional transcriptionist and she claims that she saw a 20% boost in her typing speed (which was f-a-s-t as it was...120-130 wpm with an error rate of <1% now it must a lot more)

Oh, I'm sure I'd keep good ol' QWERTY on the backburner... I type at a good 50 wpm clip, so I should be fine... I think typing is sort of like riding a bicycle... you can only lose proficiency, but you can never fully forget :)

Question: Is it Dvorak, as pronounced phonetically (div-or-ack), or Dvorak, like the composer (Dih-vor-zhak)?

I would give Dvorak a try, but I'm in college and use computer labs alot and they are all qwerty. I think i would be doing more harm to myself than good. Yes i could switch the layout to Dvorak on my computer, but all the computers at school are qwerty and cant change that(they have passwords on their passwords here)

I say it (Di-Vor-ak) but thats just me. I don't know if that is right.

I have heard it pronounced on the radio just as you pronounce it Foosa....not like the composer. We have a local computer show on the radio here. They get a lot of local Silicon Valley interviews...not bad.

don't use it, and as long as I can avoid it, I will. Why change change while I am stil lworking on my qwerty skills?
