Would you please give me your opinions on the Video Excel GeForce 2 MX400
64MB AGP 4x?? I'm thinking of using it in a new build with a Gigabyte 7DXR and a 1.4 AMD T-Bird.

Thanx

Don't have any personal experience with GeForce 2 MX400, but do with GeForce 256, GeForce 2 MX, & GeForce 3. The GForce2 MX'ers are a great bang for the buck. Prepare to shell out 2.5 - 3 times as much for a marginal increase in performance. I love my GForce 3, but for the money ya can't beat the GForce 2 MX'ers.

Hi TEEB,

From what I've read it's not with the extra cash to go with the MX400 over the MX. Even though the MX400 has 64MB of RAM, it's memory pipeline is too slow to actually utilize it. Have you looked at ATI's budget card, the Radeon LE? It's a great card and with a few simple tweaks, performs better than the MX. Hope that helps.

Any of the MX cards are only marginally better than a GeForce 256 (the original GeForce). You can get a standard GeForce 2 GTS for a little over $100 now that it's been on the shelf for a while and it leaves the MX in the dust. I'd suggest an Elsa Gladiac, but any of the GeForce 2 cards will suffice and you'll be impressed. Alot of ATI fans claim that the picture quality is better on an ATI card, but it's purely personal opinion. I don't see any difference in picture quality on either card, but there is definitely a difference in raw speed. The GeForce 2 beats the Radeon in almost every benchmark you throw at it.
