I use Netscape 4.7 as my browser... I just reformated and installed Win98se on my "back-up" machine(AMD K6-266).. I thought that I would give IE5 a shot instead of installing Netscape.. I went to the Windows update site downloaded all of the critical updates,it works fine(using it now)... My question is I did this on my main machine (AMD K6-2 500)also.. When I try to use IE5 it crashes and I get this...
"IExplorer has caused an invalid page fault in module shlwapi.dll at 017f:70bd228f"
I checked the Win web site but can fine no mention of shlwapi.dll... I have IE5 on a cd, should I just re-install over top?? I do prefer to use Netscape, it's just that I would like to have IE5 working properly on my main machine too! Or should I just forget about it because the re-install might make it worse??(I've seen this happen)....
Thanks.....Riesz

Try using the internet explorer repair tool. It's found in the tools menu of system information.
Hopefully, that will fix it, or tell you exactly what's wrong. My guess is that DLL is a later version, or it's corrupted.
MOST of IE5 file versions are higher than 5.XXXXXX

Go to Add/Remove programs, select IE5 and internet tools, click remove, a menu will pop up which has a repair option, try it.

Well...... I checked the add/remove programs and IE5 was NOT listed.... So... I down-loaded IE 5.1 from Windows Update... seems to be working ok (using it now).. I now have it listed in the add/remove... It seems that 98se doesn't have all "fix" options for IE5 included??
Thanks for all of the help..... Riesz

Yup, I forgot that SE doesn't come with the uninstall option, thus no repair option either.
Anyhow, the upgrade to 5.1 is a good move.

Go to Start>Run, type or copyNpaste rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files \Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
This should give you the option.
