normal temperatures

What is a normal temperature range for a cpu. I have an AMD 4200 X2 and I looked in the bios and I think it was reading 29 degrees C. Is this about right for idle temperature?

That's a good temp. Depending on room temps, usage (game play, etc) you're good to go easily up to 50 or more. I stay around 45 - 50 during game play, and 32 - 36 for non-heavy use.

My 4400 X2 idles at 30 degrees, so that seems like an accurate temperatures. With one core under full load, it runs at about 38. With both cores under full load, it maxes out at 46 degrees. This is using the stock AMD cooler, in a case with good airflow.

My 4600 X2 idles at about 34 and I have not seen it above 45.

My X2 idles at 26-29C and hits 44C with two instances of dual Prime running or after a coule hours of Oblivion with the MBM5 monitoring program. Utilizing CoreTemp, which supposedly measures the temp on the die itself, my temps are 31-33C Idle and 48-51C load. This is with a case with good ventilation and the Thermalright XP120 with AS5.

I've run MBM5 for years and couldn't get it to work with my Asus MB. It is an AM2 MB and if that is what you are running, let me please know how you got it to work. I am monitoring my HDs with MBM5 but get garbage on everything else. The temps jump all over the place from 25 for 10 sec then to 40 and then to 70 and that will repeat itself over and over so I got PC 2006 Wizard and that seems to be working OK.
BTW, I have an uncle that lives in Owosso, MI.

Sorry, I'm a 939 socket on a DFI board. I went to DFI-Street and found a link to a mod that actually corrects the program for my specific board (just another reason why I LOVE this mobo). I don't know if ASUS has anything similar, perhaps you could google something, or email the author who engineered the software:

I know he has discontinued development of the software, citing the impossibility of getting info from manufacturers (he was PARTICULARLY harsh on ASUS), but he may be able to give you some leads.
