Is this the stock CPU heatsink that came with a retail CPU? Or is it an aftermarket heatsink?

its an aftermarket cooler: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, comes with 'Pre-applied MX-1 Paste'

fitting to core 2 duo cpu.

Ah, MX-1. Well in that case I suggest you not replace it. Two things:

1. MX-1 is a very high quality TIM. I would only put it second to Arctic silver 5. There should be at MAX 1-2c difference between them.

2. MX-1 is applied in a very appropriate manner on that particular heatsink. You might actually result in worse, or just equivalent to Arctic silver 5 temperatures if you remove it. Especially if your not experianced in applying TIM.

Its more of a personal decision here.
