Picked up a 2CD E6300 and am goin gwith the Asus P5B MB. I want a good ram that will allow me to push it to 2.5GHZ or so. Should I go with a 800MHz PC2 6400? Or is the 667MHz PC2 5400 sufficient?

It depends. 667 or 800 cant just be used a single standard.

I know some DDR2 667 which can hit DDR2 1200. I also know some DDR2 800 which cant go past ddr2 900.

Overall, seeing as you only need 2.5ghz. Some decent 667 should easily be able to hit it.

Perhaps some low end Corsair XMS2 PC5400.

That's what I was thinking about...

TWIN2X1024-5400C4

Or I can go with the:

TWIN2X1024A-6400 for $15 more.

Would either one be able to handle the bus at 400? And will I be able to move the multiplier on my E6300 to get the speed I'm looking for?

If you want to do extreme overclocking go with the DDR2 800 memory.

As they both have the same chips. In the end the 6400 set will probally hit a little further due to its chips being better binned.

So yeah since the difference is only 15 bucks, I would highly suggest the 6400 kit. Ive seen it hit DDR 950-1000 without much of an hassle.

Cool. I may as well go for it. After reading up more on the E6300 I figure I want to go for 7x400 which would be 2.8GHz. Would you forsee any difficulty in doing this with my gear?

Intel E6300
Asus P5B
Corsair TWIN2X1024A-6400
EVGA 7900GS KO
Antec Sonata 2 W/PS

Nope your set. Good selection of parts. That particular board maxes out at around ~420-450mhz. So thats more then enough.

Just a tip. Make sure you keep good airflow throughout the case. It will help that antec psu last longer.
