I keep receiving the following error msg from ATI Catalyst:
"VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator or it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands"
Has anyone had to deal with this b4? As in successfully dealing with this?
What happens is that while i am working on my PC, after sometime, the monitor screen goes black then comes back with the above msg! I have heard that it is the way ATI 'saves' you from B. Gates infamous blue screen of death. It is not only annoying but actually locks my PC up at times.

Have you checked the power supply unit? A weak power supply wouldn't do much properly.
And is your processor overheating? Check the temperatures in your PC.
Finally, try checking your memory sticks by using Memtest.
Hope that helps. :)

That's happened to me. They recommend decreasing your hardware acceleration first. That didn't do it for me. I turned off my fast read and writes in ATI Catalyst Control Center and that did it. I have an ATI 9500 Pro Card, 1280x960@85 Hz, ABIT VA-10 FSB333 VIA Chipset, Athlon XP 2700, 350W PS, Maxtor 60 GB 7200 RPM HDD.
Even when I upgraded to the new Catalyst driver last year that didn't help.
It never crashed during games. Only when it felt like it. I could play Call of Duty no problem.

I am now, also noticing some some lines on my LCD display. Sometimes there are lines in part of the application that might be open. I scroll up and back down, they don;t go, however, I 'refresh' my screen, it usually solves the problem. Same goes for small colors on the screen, goes when I reload or close then open the application,.

Hi my temps are as follows:
m/bd - degrees
CPU - 121 degrees
power - 70 degrees
Are these temps okay? My PC has been on all day..
Also, I am running a program called fresh diagnose.. when I run the benchmark on the display adapter.. it has made me have to restart my PC twice. Whats that all about? Could this indicate that I have a prob with the video card?
thks once again

Well I tried my LCD screen on another PC with a VGA cable and it worked (looked) fine.
U think that it is the Vid card?

This has happened to an old ATI Radeon 9200SE I have. It's a 64mb AGP 8x. It could play games like CS:S fine, but every second you get that error and have to restart. I found no way of getting rid of the error besides getting a new video card. One reason why I didn't buy ATI as my video card.
Though, I have an ATI Sapphire x850xt and it never gets any errors. So, I think it's just the cards or the newer drivers or something..
Open up the case and blow a fan into it - does the display clear up? Are the heatsink fins on the video card clogged with dust?

Actually I had blown out the whole system about a week ago... the problem still exists. Has been there for a few months.. seems to be getting worse with the PC freezing 3-4 x a day.
A point of order - you seem to have about 3 threads going on your issues right now - and it's difficult to follow and cross reference.

well, I have decided to just buy a video card. then hope for the best that it resolves the problem!
Now all I have to do is to decide on a card. I was thinking of getting the eVGA (nvidia) 7600GT. Considering I don;t do any gaming... should be ok. ot sure if it too much more than I need.
What U think?

thx for all your input. I just came back from the computer shop. He installed a new PCI-Express card. I bought the eVGA 7300 for 91+ tax (cdn) came to 103$. I ran the Fresh diagnose Display benchmark on the PC, and it went thru. My Outlook text after I start scrolling is also looking good.
thks again.
