My son just finished building his first computer and had it all up and running. During a period of inactivity the computer went into sleep mode. It had not been preprogrammed to wake up with the use of the mouse or keyboard, so nothing he did would wake it. He held the power button down for 7 seconds to shut it off and then tried to restart it. Secondly he removed the battery, then the battery and the graphics card for a while and finally out of desperation he pulled everything out, but to no avail. The monitor won't turn on. He gets the "no signal" on the screen. The graphics card won't initialize as the BIOS does not recognize it. Has anyone else come across this problem and know how to solve it?

Could you list the major components by brand and model number? This will help with determining possible part problems.

Intel Desktop Board D945PVS motherboard / an Intel Pentium D 840 3.2 GHz processor/ a Seagate 40 Gig. hard drive/ 2 AMPO 4200 256Mb/ ATI Radeon video graphics card (used)/ ViewSonic ViewPanel VG150 monitor/ Windows XP home edition SP2.

His uncle who donated the video card is wondering if that could be the culprit so is sending him a new card he just bought yesterday to see if that fixes the problem. He purchased the first card from a friend who was upgrading.

Probably not all of the motherboard power connections are made and/or have a cheap/dead/undersized PSU.
