Buying a used case . . . what do need?

Hi. I'm thinking about buying a used case on eBay for my new build. I would never buy any other used component, but I feel reasonably safe getting the case that way . . . especially if it's a higher quality (Lian Li) case than I could otherwise afford. Of course, I will be buying a new power supply. It's just the case itself that will be used.

What I'm wondering, though, is what I will be missing out on by buying a case that doesn't come new in a retail box. In particular, my understanding is that the motherboard stand-offs come with the case, rather than with the motherboard. If my used case does not include these, will I be able to buy some elsewhere? A quick Newegg search didn't seem to turn anything up. Are standoffs pretty standard, or would I need to get a very specific type that matches my case? Is there anything else I should worry about missing out on?

Yes you can easily buy standoffs and other case screws. What the case?
Also would you like some links to where you can get standoffs?

Contact the seller and ask if the standoffs are included.

Keep an eye on the shipping charges...the price may look nice until they charge you $50 to ship the thing.

whubbard: I'm looking mostly at Lian Li mid-tower cases, with the silvery brushed aluminum. They're such beautiful, under-stated cases. Call me crazy, but I'm not a big fan of the contorted plastic/exceedingly bright LEDs "bling" look that you see on so many home-built computers. The Lian Li cases have an elegance to them that I usually only associate with high-end Apple products (Powerbooks, etc.). They're also, according to various reviews, exceedingly well-made, with great airflow, removable motherboard trays and drive racks, plenty of room, etc. All that said, I still can't justifying spending a couple of hundred (or even one hundred) dollars for one.

Also, thanks very much for the link, that's a big relief. (On a side note that makes me sound like an 11-year-old . . . the title of that page is "Male-Females," which makes me feel a bit dirty when I look at my bookmarks now.)

blue60007: Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I did notice that some of the shipping charges were really outrageous . . . still, as long as you're careful it seems like there are deals to be had.

The world at large: if anyone would like to donate a brand new Lian Li case to me, I would appreciate it, and then this thread could just be deleted and you'd never have to look at it again. In the long run, I think it would be worth it to you.
