Video Card Ranking?

Is there a good post, or table, that ranks newer video cards?

I have browsed many posts and they are full of statements like “The 7900gs is somewhere between the 7800gt and 7800 gtx”. This is great information, and really helps to put these specific cards in perspective, but only gives a narrow range and does not answer the question of what card to get if you want to go a little higher or lower. I also often want to know what the equivalent (better or worse) Radion is in that range.

Anyway, if anyone knows if this has been covered in a post somewhere on the forum or can link me to a table somewhere out there on the internet I would appreciate it.

Thank you for the links. The techreport is a nice spot to compair what each card offers but does little to tell you how they preform. Tom's Hardware's chart, which I have used in the past, gives nice comparisons, but I find it lacking as an overall ranking.

The problem with Tom's Hardware's chart is that depending on benchmark, the cards swap places so fast that it is hard to determine if going to the next level is worth it. When you are thinking about spending an extra $200 to step up from a one card to the next and half the benchmarks show the cheaper card out performing the more expensive card you have to wonder what is going on. I relize that the benchmarks are just a snapshot in time, but it would be nice to understand more clearly what you are getting for the extra dough.

What I am looking for is a more subjective rating, or averaging, that just lists the cards in order of overall performance. In some ways this is accomplished in the market by price, but then you have other variables like name brand and quality effecting the ratings. And I understand that a subjective rating can be flawed also because the reviewer always has a bias towards what s/he thinks is most important. I just find it hard to wind through all the xtx, gtx, pro, gt, gs, xt, etc. to get to what is an upgrade and what is not.

But thanks again for the posts and I whatever I end up with will probably be so much more than I need anyway it wont really matter.

It is impossible to find an overall ranking for every card. Just as you mentioned, certain cards exceed in some games and not in others. It has to do with not only how the card is made but that every game is programmed differently. So the best you can do is figure out a budget and ask for suggestions in that area.
