1000-1500 gamer build question

I've decided to build a new computer to play Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and I don't think my computer will do. I want to build a new computer that I can play this game on for between 1000-1500. Basically I just need the case and everything that goes in it. I have keyboard, printer, speakers ect...
I've looked into books and other websites to deciede on parts but the books were already out of date (1 year) and the website just didn't help me because there are SO many options.:confused:

I've seen this spec posted by Alaron on another post:
Motherboard: Asus P5B
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e6300
RAM: 1GB Corsair DDR2-667
Video Card: eVGA Geforce 7600GT

I'm not sure which Asus p5b motherboard will go with the CPU. He said this spec will run 850, but I wanted a computer that will stay with me for about 3 years and through new games too. Any improvements on this spec with new budget would be appreciated. Also, I am completely new to building a computer (last computer I gave money to a friend who built it for me) so any information would be grateful.

It's a good list. Unless you are into major overclocking and constant tweaking, that one should be fine. I'd spend another 100. and go with 2 GB DDR2-667. Better performance overall. The P5B that he is referring to is the P5B.

If you have around $1500 to spend, I would recommend an X1950XT ($250 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104954), possibly even a X1950XTX ($430 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131021). Also, you might want to pick out a case that you like and get a seperate power supply (the FSP AX-450 [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104954] is the cheapest good brand PSU that will run a X1950Pro or X1950XT, I would get a better PSU if you get an X1950XTX). Those specs look good. The only things that I would change are: get 2GB of Ram, get a 1950XT, and lastly, if there is still money left after that, you could upgrade to a E6600 Processor. I am definately not overclocking or tweaking. The question with the mobo was which P5B? There are several versions for sale on new egg and I'm not sure which is the one specified. Is it the:

Yes, that is the right P5B. I'm using the same one.

Oh, and there is no AMD equivalent to the power of the e6600 - except maybe the $700 FX-62.

The E6600 Processor seems a bit much for me at them moment. So I might stick with the e6300. But I have come across another problem, this is really tough :confused: , I read on the forum that dual processors don't make gaming faster. They're just good for multitasking. Would it be better for me to stick with a single core with more ghz? The game will require 2.2 when it comes out, and that was the min. So would it be better for me to get a single core processor with more speed for processing the game? And if so, which is a good single core with a good processing speed? And if I'm wrong please tell me, because I really don't want to blow this.

In totality what you read is not true - especially for the E6300. I CANNOT think of a single core CPU that would perform better than the E6300 in gaming. How do I know? I own one, and I am very impressed with the performance in gaming, multitasking, and just everyday activities.

Actually that is true-to an extent naca.

But you also have to keep in mind that most games are now embracing multithreading. And your overall windows experiance will be much faster due to dual core.

BUT remember that core 2 duo is the fastest processor on the market. Meaning there is no single core processor that could touch it. Maybe if there was a single core version of the Core design, then yeah, one with higher ghz will be faster purely in gaming.

Since theres no such thing, stick to core2duo and get the best of both worlds.

Your right, if you are comparing a 3800+ x2 and a 3800+ then the 3800+ would win. I was referring more to the C2D. :)
