Was given a 2002 Works Suite (New in shrink wrap). Would be putting it on the family computer.Any drawbacks when compared to say something like Open Office?Any advantages?

OO
i heard it rivals MS Office.
I believe you will get more of a feature set in OO then in Works, but i have never used works, i've been in Office and Open Office land my whole life.
plus you can't beat the price!!!!!

If the Works Suite includes Word, it's worth it. If not, or if you need a spreadsheet that's Excel-compatible, just use Open Office.

That version came with my wife's dell inspiron 2600 a few years back. It has word included and was all she needed. You can also just install word and not the other programs if you dont need all the other flotsam and jetsam.

Thanks for the opinions! Decided to install the whole suite and it's really decent (especially for what we'll be using it for.) Going to see how we settle in as far as what we use and get rid of what we don't. Going to use OO on my personal comp and learn that. Talked with some friends about it and they say it is a worthy contender w/Office. Said in some aspects even better.Looking forward to the learning curve.
