my computer makes a noise that sounds like a tiny motor coming through the speakers, but it only does it when certain windows/programs are open. It's not real bad/loud,but still. Sometimes I think that the different colors even on a website will do it. but mainly it will do it when playing a video file. there have also been times when it would make almost the same noise when moving my mouse over certain areas of a website. and it doesnt matter what program I use for a browser or video/media player
I have a GeForce 7800GS video card, samsung 17" lcd monitor, onboard sound on a ASUS A7N8X-E mb, the mouse is a wireless microsoft intellimouse explorer, and I also have a linksys wireless router going real close by. aside from the speaker cable I do have wires and cables going to my computer to almost a dozen other things. anything you can think of that you can think of that can be plugged into a computer theres a good chance I have it plugged into mine. :p
lets remember that these are not just games, but simulations, thus driving needs a wheel, flying needs a flightstick, keyboard for first person, gamepad for most sports... LOL;)
anyway, is it interference, driver.

Are you using a PCI soundcard or onboard? Onboard sound is subject to noise emitted from the other components on the PCB and can give you minor feedback or distortion issues.

Yea, I am using just the onboard sound thats on the motherboard.
As I am typing this, I just noticed that when I hold a key on my keyboard and make it repeat, I'm getting some of that minor feedback/distortion
maybe this will get me to finally stop using the onboard sound, you would think an ex-musician would have got a good sound card a long time ago, LOL

This may have nothing to do with it, but cell phones (not in use, just sitting there) can cause noises in the speakers if they are too close.

yes, I have heard noise caused from cell phone, but that wasnt the main noise that I was asking about. At any rate, I'm going to finally buy a new sound card and stop using the onboard sound.
Any sugguestions on a pretty good sound card, I would like to try and keep the price under $100 if I can.
any thoughts on these

If youre going to spend the money on a soundcard, stay away from the SE models. They use software to render sounds as opposed to the hardware DSP used on something better. An X-Fi Xtreme Music can be had for under $100 and is an excellent soundcard.

The Audigy 4 is pretty good, but the Xtreme Audio is just another one of them "SE" cards...uses software instead of hardware to render sound. You could get the X-Fi Xtreme Music for nearly the same price as the Audigy 4 after a $20 mail-in rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102188
