View Full Version : HD Problems I think

Lately I've been having stability issues:
1) Last night, whenever I tried to play Counter-Strike: Source, my computer would instantly freeze 0-10 seconds in the game
2) I run mIRC 24/7 and 5 times the program randomly closes, no error or anything, just disapears.

I'm not positive that it is the hard drive itself that is causing the problem. It is a 120GB Barracuda ATA, can't get the model right now.

Right now I'm running CHKDSK on it. I'm not sure if it would do anything.

Can someone tell me some good programs that will fix hard drive errors?

Do reply and ask questions/theories.

My specs:
Windows XP Pro SP2 (SiCo SP3 unofficial)
Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M 2800+
1GB RAM - DDR400
eVGA GeForce 6600GT (AGP 8x)

I'll do this once CHKDSK is complete. I just got an error on my backup hard drive's Windows when mIRC crashed:

AppName: mirc.exe AppVer: 6.1.7.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0002ae22

I searched for this file on my hard drive but I didn't find it.

I have all the Windows updates installed. I have the latest mIRC.

Get this:
I have never had this problem before. I have two hard drives with Windows installed on them, and programs installed on them. No programs are installed dual using another hard drive.

I get on this Windows and suddenly got that error when opening the Options dialog in mIRC.

the ntdll.dll file should be in c:\windows\system32

if you do a search make sure you search with these advanced options checked, show hidden files and folders, and search system files. if you still can't find it. copy a new ntdll.dll and register the dll file.

copy a new one off of your xp cd from the I386 directory.

to register a new ntdll.dll file:

Are you overclocking?
No, this computer sucks at overclocking. This fixed it:
start>run>sfc /scannow
