Should I get the MX-518 or the G5? Any experiences with either I should know about?
I need to put one or the other on my Christmas list.
Go to a store that has both on display and see which one is more comfortable in YOUR hand.

They both have the same feel and style. I'm just wondering what advantages I would get from going laser vs optical if any.

My son plasy a lot of CS:source and uses the G5. He loves it and the fact that he can adjust the resolution for different uses. He using it on an Ice Pad.

I would also consider the Razor Diamondback Plasma. Has good reviews and looks nice.
I am using a MX510, was using a MX518 (buttons wore out, I use it a lot)

Find the mouse that best fits your hand and that feels most comfortable. It's not a snap decision.
I spent some weeks going back and forth to the local Best Buy before deciding on the G5. I knew immediately that the Razor wasn't for me. It didn't fit my hand movements at all.
I found that the G5 was the best fit and feel for me. When I got it home, I had to adjust the weights so that I could control the mouse more finely. I upgraded from a trackball, and found the G5 to be a more accurate mouse. Mind you, I then had to get a mousepad that would optimize my performance.
Best of luck to you!
