I have my mobo on a cardboard box. I have a Ultra 500W ,Gigabyte GA-945P-S3,Intel core2duo 6300,Corsair DDR2 XMS2,EVGA e-GEForece 7600GT,Maxtor 300GB SATA
With everything but the graphics card connected all the fans turn and everything seems ok. When I install the graphics card and turn the power on I heard a beep and the CPU fan stops.
Does this indicate a problem with the video card. Is this a good card?

You should get a post, and a display and be able to get into the BIOS setup with what you have connected there. Are you sure you have the processor heat sink fan correctly installed, and you do have a keyboard connected right?

More than likely it's a problem with the PSU. If the Ultra is the V-series, that one isn't an ATX 2.0 dual 12v and isn't the correct one for your system. Certain series of Ultra's are not very good.

It is Ultra 500W ATX power supply. Is this a good one?

Is the GPU power cable attached to the video card?

There are like 4 different model lines of Ultra: X2/X-connect/X-finity/V-series.
Post the exact model number, then we can figure out if it's ATX ot ATX 2.0 standard.

It is the V series ATX

There's probably your problem, the V-series 500w is the older ATX, you need an ATX 2 dual 12v PSU with the 24 pin and 4 pin CPU power connections.

This one does have the 24 pin & 4 pin connectors. Just wondering why it is not a good option. Is it a flakier model or just not powerful enough? I have already changed the cpu/fan & the memory. Now I guess I might as well change the PS as well.

You did not answer this question, because it could be the culprit..

I'm sorry . I assume the GPu cable is the power supply cable. When I couldn't see any power supply cable connector on my card earlier on I called the manufacturer to make sure and they said this card didn't have an external power connector.

Just to let you know how good Ultra power supplies are, the staff at PC Mech did a review on a Ultra not too long ago and 3 out of 4 samples were defective.

I'd get another power supply from a better maker. There is a reference guide here. (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195)

Thanks. You guys are really great. I'll get a new powersupply and try it out.
I think my MOBO is DOA. I pulled out the memory and turned the power on . The fans started turning but I didn't hear any beeps. The speaker wires from the case were connected to the MOBO. Is this sufficient to hear the beeps? I am thinking of changing the MOBO as well.
Would appreciate any advice.

Get the Asus P5B. :)

You want one post beep.

Wait, so it didn't post with the Corsair memory? Although it is not very common, Corsair has sent me one dead memory stick. It happens sometimes.

The beep that I am supposed to hear when I start up my pc, What does it sound like?
Can it be confused with a starting up sound?
I do apologise for this question.

Just one beep, usually from the internal PC speaker is the indication that all is well.
