Depending on the type of IDE cable that you have on the optical drives determine how the drives are to be jumpered. If the flat cable is a 40 wire(very washboard looking and connectors same color)then the drives are jumpered Master/Slave. If a 80wire cable(connectoers blue/gray/black) then the jumpers are set to CS(cable select).

do you have burning software like Nero...does the software see it...?

some dvd burners dont like being a slave so try the cable select as mentioned... or try the drive on the IDE all by itself and see what happens?

You have 3 IDE connectors. Only the red connector may be used for optical drives - the 2 green connectors will only work with hard drives.

looks like im going to have to rebuild the whole thing again
when i was trying to install service pack 2 the damn computer just shut off on me again
now its getting power but will not boot up again
and i dont think its the ide cable might be my board. i know my harddrive work
when i hook it up to my frans comp it work just fine
