Did a scan yesterday with AVG and it said kernel32.exe change, when scan finished it added changed. On next boot up got the windows security alert and red cross warning and balloon saying your computer may be at risk. Do you think these are related and any ideas what to do about it. Have run another scan and the same warning appears. This warning comes on immediately at start up of scan.

Some softwares modify the kernel32 file upon installation. Both legitimate and not-so-legitimate softwares do this. I wouldn't read too much into it unless your AV program reports a virus. The security balloon is probably warning you that your AV is out of date, although you should click the balloon top see what component Windows is trying to warn you about, and take corrective action. It's either your firewall or your AV program.
