Password your account, password the administrator account, and set the screen saver and standby to require a password on resume.

A BIOS password is very effective as well.

You still haven't told us whether it's XP Pro or XP Home.

You only have access to the Administrator account in Safe Mode with XP Home. Don't forget to password that one. Don't go *deleting* any accounts - just make sure they are all passworded.

Review all 3 links kingsucka provided.

hey this has nothing to do with this issue... but I have my administrator account passworded which is the account I use (I know it's not recommended) however I want windows to automatically load up without going to the welcome screen and prompting me to add a password. With this though, I am going to add a bios password to the system so that people can't even get past that point unless they know the old take the battery out trick. Can anyone help?

Keith

Ps I am not really interested in making another account but thats the only option than I guess I will settle for just a windows password screen

1. At a command prompt, type "control userpasswords2" and press Enter to open the Windows 2000-style User Accounts
application.
2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer check box and then
click OK.
3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name and password for the account you want to be
logged on each time you start your computer.

Thanks a lot glc, I knew there was a way, I just didn't know how to get to that user accounts screen. I appreciate all your help including the past! By the way, I got my new cd drive from dell and the CD works.
