damn, cricket, you must have a squeeky clean computer with all those programs. so are all your programs easy to use? is there a lot of configuration for the ones listed that i don't have? why do you use so many? i would use more but im afraid i will be overprotecting my web browsing and it will just become annoying when everything becomes blocked.
bhome83, you are using exactly what I install on customers' computers, no more, no less.

damn, cricket, you must have a squeeky clean computer with all those programs.Seems to be. I haven't gotten any spyware in ages, especially since I stopped using IE and switched to Opera.so are all your programs easy to use? Most are. IE Spyad and Enough is Enough! require a bit more work to install.is there a lot of configuration for the ones listed that i don't have? There is some for CookieWall.why do you use so many?Over the years I heard about this one and that one, try them out and then keep what works.i would use more but im afraid i will be overprotecting my web browsing and it will just become annoying when everything becomes blocked. Then you wouldn't want to use Enough is Enough! for Internet Explorer. It sets the security levels to maximum and you really feel restricted when using it. I use it mostly when my nephews and nieces visit so they don't royally mess up the computers.

me thinks of company needs to come out with a top quality all in one type of program, that can be programmed to do all the tasks at a certain time. would save me the time. :) so how often do you guys run these programs?

I've never used it but I think glc recommends Trend Micro Internet Security (http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec_Main.Entry17c?SID=16269&SP=10023&CID=268006&PID=852395&PN=1&V1=852395&CUR=840&DSP=&PGRP=0&ABCODE=&CACHE_ID=268006) to people looking for all-in-one packages.

Router + Zone alarm, then I just keep an eye on things to make sure they aren't causing issues, I run spybot and adaware on occasion also use HijackThis to monitor things myself.
If things get overrun I use my favorite method: format c:
I haven't had issues while running Linux so for that it usually consists of: sudo apt-get upgrade, sudo apt-get update

Followed the suggestions from the tech gurus here in PCMech, and my PC is running fine and mostly secure too.
I even used AVG to fix my friend's infected computer. The trojan just disappeared when I loaded up a CCleaner, Spywareblaster and Zonealarm Free, and it never resurfaced again. That's for saving him and me so much time. :D

I run the following, on my windows setup, I run the spyware & diskeeper programs every other month, AVG nightly. I usually end up with a few (maybe 10) tracking cookies.
AVG
Ewido spyware
Spy bot
Adaware
modfied Host file
Diskeeper
On my linux setup, I may run a root kit program occasionally.

cheers to that, :) toomyg
I no longer recommend the Trend Micro package due to bloat. AVG has a full security package now and if I had to recommend one, that's what I'd probably use. I personally prefer to use individual applications, choosing the best for each function.
