Hi everyone,
The other day I opened ''Recycle Bin'' on my desktop and unexpectedly found a slew
of BAK files listed. They all seem copies of folders I have in Outlook Express.
They were all created and deleted on exectly the same day and at the same time.
How and why did these copies come to the ''Recycle Bin''???
Can I safely delete them?????
The original folders and files are still present in my O.E.
Can anyone please enlighten me?
Thanks,
Yun.

.bak files are "backup" files. Many different programs create them...

Seems like there is a tweak/backup program that backs up OE files during the folder compress routine.

im not sure if outlook express could do it automatically but the only way i know is manually. lets say the file is send.txt.bak
all you have to do is take out the .bak and copy it into a directory.
note: by doing this you will erase the send.txt in the folder you are copying to. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT FILES YOU WANT.

When you compact folders, I believe the .bak files are just backups - why do you want to restore them? All the info should still be in your folders.

I have a situation where I want to restore the old files from one computer's Outlook Express because I think it might contain some emails that accidentally got deleted and aren't present currently. I don't have access now to the former computer but I have my *.bak files. I also have new Outlook Express messages that I don't want overwritten.

How do I go about restoring them or opening them? Is it possible?

Denise
