Ok...so I'm just setting up my sisters laptop, installing a few things, going through the initial setup etc so that come christmas morning she can just pull it out the box and use it straight away.

However, I was just hooking it upto the wireless network in our house, and it's connected fine (put in all the settings etc), except it isn't receiving any packets, which I believe will in tie in with the problem that internet explorer won't load up any pages.

Things seem fine from first glance in network connections and internet options.

...any idea?

does it have an IP address from the DHCP server (assuming you are using it)? also, check to make sure the security passphrase has been put in correctly. i have had that happen before when i put in a WEP/WPA key incorrectly

It seems the problem was to do with my WEP key, it gives me 4 keys in my linksys router settings, I chose the 4th one (figuring any will do), but I tried the first key and now it seems fine.

Although in Network connections its shown up "internet gateway" and it says its disabled, yet internet explorer (I'll be putting firefox on first thing) works fine.

edit
...thats disappeared now (the internet gateway icon)
