well last Thursday in b-ball practice the end of my finger was hit with the ball and the follow Monday i went the doctor and she said she thought it wasn't broken but the muscle in the end of the finger was torn so she said keep it in a splint for a week and then see how it is and she said if you don't move it for a while it gets stiff so bend it a little. i dont trust this new doctor really at all today i took the splint off and i can move the tip of my finger less now then i could on monday so im concerned cuz i want it to be healed

so i was wondering mabye leave the splint off till next morning or later and see how it is or what.
has any one had experience with this. srry im just really concerned

any thoughts??

New or old, a doctor is a doctor. While I do not have any finger injuries to speak from, I would be weary of defying a doctor's advice.

You're typing with this finger apparently. I don't know if that's good for it.

I see new doctors in just the opposite way. New doctors are much more likely to be up on the latest technology in my opinion.

Listen to you're doctor. Put the splint back on. Injuries take time to heal and if you do not give the injury adequate time then it can go from bad to worse. She did not spend eight years plus learning how to be a physician for nothing. Do you really think you know more about medicine than her? Besides it won't hurt you to put it back on for the prescribed length of time.

A doctor CAN make a mistake. Just because they have a M.D in front of their name, doesnt mean they know everything and dont know how to make mistakes. The M.D certinitely adds credibility to advice, but it does not always guarantee the truth or mistake-free. Their is a reason why people suggest "get a second opinion".

Go with your gut, and seek another doctor. You have the right for a second opinion. IF that is what you really want to do.

If you don't trust your Dr, get a second opinion. But make it a second opinion from another trained MD! - not from a bunch of computer and network techs!

I smashed my finger doing steel work... cut it open pretty good too... they just splinted it... said that it wasn't broken, but if I flip ya the bird, you can see the tip is slightly crooked.... no big deal, no loss of use or awkwardness with it and you won't notice unless I point it out.... I would think go with your doctor's advice..... and if you don't think the splint is helping, take it off and take it easy.

Injuries take time to heal.... I had a nice bout with tennis elbow... started in late Feb last year... took forever to heal and I still wouldn't say it's 100%, but pretty close and still healing.

While I will personally trust a medical doctor over my own judgement in terms of whether they made a mistake or not, a second opinion is a smart play.
