You basing this on personal experience or hearsay? Some of us that have been involved in the MS Vista Beta testing would offer a differing opinion.;)

Yes, sorry, I was basing that on a personal opinion from the things I've heard and just because an operating system typically has some bugs and room for improvement after the first release.

My first impressions were less than favorable due to the issues associated with a Beta product. But MS did a good job of correcting networking problems and other user complaints before releasing Beta 2. This last release seems to be very stable. Vista seems to operate faster than XP but it's hard to say whether that's due to the software or the requirement for more ram and faster video card. I have two systems that are very close in hardware, one running XP Home and the other running Vista. Both have 1Gb of memory. The Vista machine seems quicker to open programs, IE7 runs smooth on the Vista platform and the new eye candy is actually quite nice once you get used to it. The one area that I dislike is the excessive security features incorporated in Vista. The average user is going to become frustrated having to approve/accept mulitple screens just to install a new program and make a change to user settings. The Tweakers will quickly find the ways to turn off this security but most folks will just express their dissatisfaction with this new feature.

I have a Toshiba laptop with a 3.2 HT processor and a gig of RAM. I bought a second harddrive and installed Vista Beta on it.
At the moment I agree with everything PR has said in his post, it does seem faster than XP and yes the security issues are definately going to annoy some people, overall I like it and for the first time ever I will buy it soon and not do my usual of, wait untill the new OS is a few years old and has had the bugs tweaked out of it.
I find it quite user friendly and I do like the eye candy, installation and setup was a walk in the park and so far anything I have wanted to do including networking has been very easy.

So I can pick up a new hard drive and install Vista on it and it's as easy as that? Where can I get a hold of this Vista Beta 2 and is it free? Looking on Microsoft's site real quick I didn't see any links for a download - of course, it's a huge operating system!

The Vista downloads have been discontinued pending the release of the full operating system. It's due out the end of Jan or first of Feb.

Well with all the hardware I have in this machine (sig) I should be able to run it no problem.. But I will probably wait until most of the bugs are fixed before I purchase it....

I will probably wait around a year till I even think about venturing into the Vista world. :)

I've played with it quite alot and I like it...has alot of options... you could spend days just playing with every feature of Vista..

I am sure it will get mixed reviews... as PR said the security will get very annoying for the general consensus....;)

My best guess is the Vista release will go pretty much the same as all the other new OS releases. There will be bugs and patches to fix the bugs. There will be people who find weaknesses to exploit and more patches to fix those weaknesses. It will be another cat and mouse game of the bad guys versus the good guys.

Again, Microsoft will be so proud of their patches....patches which should never have had to be written in the first place....oh, excuse me "service packs". Service?....what do they mean? How does a service pack increase service? Don't they charge for service? Oh, I get it now...it "serves" them!

The major difference is that Vista will not be a big leap in features over the previous version.
