My last hard drive went kaput (hard clicking sound then wouldn't come up).

SO I bought a new hard drive and re-installed windows. I only had windows installed, had a copy of ZoneAlarm, Ad-aware personal and SB S&D on disk so installed those. connected to the internet as last step and got windows updates immediately.

I was doing the windows updates as the first step. but it's not letting me install or update KB835732. SP2 is not even available, I'm guessing KB835732 is a prerequisite? I try to bypass it by going to windows SP2 pages and download links but it keeps coming up to the KB835732 update.

And when I try to update it, it says the update failed.

Did windows activate with no problem for you? Have you tried turning ZA off?? This is a good legal legit copy of Windows correct??

So it ended u being my unfamiliarity with XP pro. All my drives were shared. Turned off inherent file sharing in windows (think it was set to everyone).
Re-installed and up to date with validation and updates which it wouldn't do before.

any other XP pro security tips I may have missed ? I migrated from XP home.

[added] I just checked my drive properties and they indicate they are shared again for administrative purposes. Should this be? I turned sharing off but it indicated sharing will resume again once the computer restarts... (I'm asking this question too at the site where I got my first answer).
