View Full Version : Fast VNC and video on VNC question
What is the fastest VNC distro?
Is it possible to view a video file from one computer to another through a vnc software (e.g computer A is playing the video while computer B sees the video being played on computer A)?

Through a local LAN ( >= 100Mbit) I'm sure it's possible, but why not stream the video through a windows/samba share instead? If you're talking about VNC over the internet, it probably wouldn't work too well. HTH
It's not generally possible because with VNC it has to stream the entire contents of the screen, which updates 20 times per second of more for video, in addition to the fact that most video is rendered using overlay, which isn't transmitted at all over VNC. Remote desktop will transmit the video, but definitely not smoothly. You'd be much better off following floppyman's suggestion and streaming the actual file and instead of the raw video.

No VNC does not work with videos. The best distro of VNC I have used is UltraVNC. But I recommend Remote Administrator or Radmin. It is unarguably the fastest remote control program there is and its light, fast, secure, and easy to use. HEHE I got all the machines at my school with Radmin on them. (all 200) So I shutdown and control other students computers. LOL
