My Linksys BEFSR41 router just died and I need to purchase another router. Since the current one lasted from Jan of 2003, I was going to buy another Linksys BEFSR41 from Newegg for about $33.00 after rebate. I also see they have a D-Link EBR-2310 in the same price range. Opinions please on which is the better router. I was also checking at Best Buy, and when I read the requirements for the D-Link, it only mentions Windows 2000 ??? I will be connecting a computer running XP Pro and a computer still running Windows 98SE. Thanks for your opinions and recommendations.

What kind of internet connection do you have? Is this just a home network? Are you anticipating ever using wireless connections?

You should be thinking about those questions while shopping.

Both Linksys and D-Link make solid equipment. I have a Linsys BEFW at home, and I absolutely love it. It's a wireless and wired--and it serves my home needs perfectly, which are pretty demanding actually.

telegramsam- Thanks for the reply. I am connecting two computers to cable internet at home. Nothing fancy, and really not interested in wireless.

I would LEAN toward the Linksys, since their UI is so easy to use and configure. It's just one of those things that seems to just work right out of the box.

Neither of those is a bad choice, however.

I think either would work fine, but if I had to choose my vote is for the Linksys since we've been using a BEFSR41 since 2002 and it has worked out great. HTH

The BEFSR41 is probably the best basic wired router ever made. It's simple and reliable. I've been using the same one here for 4 years without a hiccup.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I did go with the Linksys BEFSR41. It seems to get high reviews all over. It looks almost like the older one with only a few changes. I put the CD in my first computer, followed a few simple instructions, and I was back on line in about 5 minutes. I then connected the other computer and it also worked. Happy with decision :) Mike
