How are you going to welcome the new year. I will be at an uncle's house as his birthday is the 31st of december. But last year i managed to get down to the London Eye in the cold and see the fireworks. What about you guys?

We don't do anything special as it's just another day to me. I'm usually asleep by 10:00pm anyway.

We usually go to my aunt's house, but for some reason we're not doing that this year. I think my girlfriend will come over and we might play board games with the family or watch a movie.

I won't be doing anything... depending how I feel, I may be asleep too.... possibly watch a movie if anything good is on.

I am gonna skip the party scene and just hang out with my family. I dont know about you guys, but new years was only fun when it hit 2000. Now, it's just "another year"

I'm trying to think of something "special" to do with my wife since I convinced her once again that going to Times Square was a really bad idea. It's gonna cost though. She wants to go dancing. Times Square ain't looking so bad after all.

I didn't even find that exciting other than to phone my dad and say... phone is working, tv is working, computer is working... see, told you nothing would happen.

Nothing really special, just watching the usual New Years television programmes and then counting down into the new year and then probably going to sleep.

Just another day to me as well. A long time ago the calendar was invented and now we celebrate the turning of the page from December to January. :D

Couldn't agree more. Did the whole party thing last year and regretted it; spent the whole night trying to control a bunch of drunk kids. This year, it's just another day for me, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it much more.

Gave up New Year's Eve parties many years ago. First wife had to make it to a party every year to celebrate and I was always the designated sober driver. Gets kinda boring watching a bunch of drunk adults act like their kids! Haven't been to a NY's party now in 16 years but this year we're going to break tradition. Some good friends are having a birthday party for her sister (turning 50) so we're going there for the evening. These same folks have season tickets to U of Michigan football games and we go as their guests once every year. The least we can do is show up for a party, eh?

Probably will go to a party or two, but I'm a horrible high school partier - I don't drink, and I don't dance :D

New Year's is the busiest night in Vegas and now that I am working in the casino industry I will be extremely busy!

While you guys sleep, party, watch movies and whatnot- I'll be busting my tail running from blackjack table to blackjack table trying to keep up with crazy gamblers....

Well, you gotta do it at least once I guess! Thing is, I'd normally associate Hogmanay with some element of tradition and 'proper' partying - and I've got no problem with that :) The only 'tradition' my experience last year gave me was the kids throwing up and starting fights, so I'm happy to give that a miss!

I'll prolly be sitting right here with the TV on - and I may have a beer or two.

I usually get a bottle of champagne for New Year's, but I didn't even go do that for this one. It's gotten to the point where nobody else in my family really likes champagne all that much, so I usually am the one that ends up having to drink most of it (and I'm not overly crazy about it either). So, it'll likely just be me sitting watching tv with a big bowl of Rotel cheese dip and a big bag of chips. After that, bedtime! :D

I heard a rumor at work that staff will get a small portion of champagne for the New Year kickoff. Hmmm, don't know about that one, I know it's Vegas, but still, it's run by corporate weenies, the FBI ran the mafia out years ago....

I stuck to my guns and enjoyed a quiet night in, with a very large bottle of Leffe beer which I enjoyed very much!

Am now living in a whole different year to most of you folks, which is probably the closest we'll get to time travel! :)

All the best for the new year to everyone.

Haven't done anything yet, in fact I'm trying to get my Winter Break assignments completed. I might head over to blockbuster later and pick up a movie, though.

Well, the dreaded night came and went. There were hundreds of thousands of people on the Strip checking out the fireworks and just partying down.
Inside the casino the place was emptied for about 45 minutes, including midnight, giving us staffers a chance to wish each other a Happy New Year's during the lull. For being the busiest night of the casino calendar it went very smoothly. I didn't get flummoxed once, just had to juggle a few tasks at once a couple times is all.

And yes, they did come around and serve us champagne! Can you believe it? It was a small portion but it did feel good to do at midnight. Only in Vegas....

We went to a neighbors house and enjoyed some food & drink (diet Pepsi for me) with some other couples. Walked home around 11pm, in bed at 11:30 & turned the TV off at 12:01.

I got tired of crowds and sheep like behavior years ago. I spent the evening sipping champagne with my wife at home watching the fireworks live on TV over the SF Bay. I never figured out the appeal of watching a ball drop in NYC which happened three hours earlier.

Yeah, that ball has to be one of the stupidest things I ever seen. I guess it'd be cool to be in NY city for Ny's eve in Times Square if I had someone I cared about with me.
But the ball has to go!

This fireworks display over Sydney beats any fireworks display I have ever seen...awesome.

Yeah, that ball has to be one of the stupidest things I ever seen.At least you don't have to watch the one here in Oklahoma. One of our local tv stations covers the Oklahoma City "ball drop" every year. Only difference is theirs isn't exactly a "drop", because theirs goes UP in the air instead of down. Guess they just had to be different.

I guess a ball dropped or hoisted up a flag pole is cheaper than a fireworks display....that's the only thing I can figure. Poor people get ripped off compared to Sydney Australia. :D

juppy
01-05-2007, 12:02 AM
Well, the people in OKC get a fireworks show, but it's not anything compared to any of the major shows put on by other cities like Sydney. More of a July 4th at the county fair auto races size of a deal. :D I think their ball is actually raised by a crane, so not quite as cheap as a flagpole, but not much to brag about either.

TimPoet
01-06-2007, 12:27 AM
Well, if they're gonna have a ball drop, then they might as well make it a glass bowl and let it drop free fall and explode all over the ground upon impact!
That's a ball dropping that I would go out and stay up until midnight to see! :D

786ARS
01-06-2007, 04:39 AM
or better yet, a ball filled with fireworks that explode when it hits the bottom of the pole.
