I had a quick question I was hoping someone knew the answer to. I searched for this on Microsoft's Vista site to no avail and have seen little of it posted elsewhere. If I'm upgrading from a 32 bit version of Media Center 2005 to a 64 bit version of Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, do I necessarily need to do a clean install, or can I retain most of my settings? Also, can I buy an upgrade disc for this purpose, or do I need to shell out the extra ~$100 for the full install?

Thanks,
Shawn

the new version of Vista will come with all versions on one disk...you pay for the key you wish to use...and you can install that version...

going from 32 to 64 is unclear but I am sure it can be done or you wouldnt get the option...

there isnt going to be a performance increase for going 64bit as a matter of fact it's a tad slower....

when you supply the dvd inside the OS and get the upgrade promt..just make sure you read the link "what you need to know before upgrading" there is alot of info in there that may pertain to you...

the only way to get a upgrade disk is to buy a new copy of media center and get the upgrade coupon... but you will get a coupon for Vista Premium...

other than that you'll have to shell out the coin....

thanks for the reply.. Shame the way they run the whole upgrade scheme. I'm running RC2 64bit on my other partition, and for me at least, it seems a lot faster. Although, I do have a lot more running on my xp partition.
