I would like to build an Ubuntu (installing a CD they sent me in the mail), and Windows 98 dual boot box. The Ubuntu would be for educational purposes, to learn more about how computers work. The 98 would be for playing older games. (Specifically, Shogun: Total War.) On the Ubuntu side I would just like to be able to use it for web browsing (on a wireless connection) and managing music on my ipod (without itunes).

Is there a low cost solution for making this combination work for me?
It would be preferable if the total cost of the tower did not exceed $300.

I have a 17" Sony Trinitron Mulltiscan 200ES Monitor,
and a 2.4 GHz, 802.11g USB Network Adapter available for this build.

Any help would be appreciated in determining parts which would be acceptable for my needs.

$300 right there. Add a floppy drive if needed plus peripherals. Good luck getting your USB adapter working with 98 and Ubuntu. All parts chosen with quality and performance in mind, I could have gone cheaper but not with parts I trust. You may want to toss another $20 or so in and get a DVD burner, it may come in handy.
