My sons computer is an emachine T2042 with a mother board that has been changed to a Intel D845 GL. It works fine with a CRT monitor but when connected to an LCD monitor it starts up shows the emachine logo then shows the screen that says windows XP and then goes black, the computer is still running because if you hook up the CRT monitor it shows the desktop icons. There is nothing wrong with the LCD monitor because it works fine on my computer. Could there be some setting that I need to do, thanks.

It is probably using a mode that the monitor does not support. Try booting into safe mode and see if an image appears. Tap F8 after the E-Machine logo and select Safe Mode from the list.
If you get an image, then it means that when normally booting, an unsupported mode is being used. To solve this, I guess I would boot normally with the CRT, put it in 800x600 display mode, and then connect the LCD to see if it works. If you prefer 1024x768, see if the LCD works with 800x600 first and then go up to 1024x768.
If you don't know how to change your display mode, right click on the desktop, click Properties, and click the Settings tab. The screen resolution can be adjusted by using the slider on the left.
It probably wouldn't hurt to reset the settings on the LCD, either. Usually you can do this by pressing the "Auto" or "Reset" button on the front of the LCD.

Might also be the refresh rate is set too high. CRT's will typically support 72-85Hz but lcd often won't display anything but 60Hz. Change to 60Hz with the crt connected and then swap them out.
