Suggest an external sound card for me.

Hi all.

I have a problem with my sound card. The sound gets corrupted and then it stops after some time while an audio or video file is still seen playing on my PC. This has been my problem since 8 months. I managed to work with it all these days some how. But now I can't still wait. So I thought of changing the sound card i.e., using an external sound card by removing the inbuilt internal one. So which sound card would suit me.

You cannot remove the internal sound card - all you can do is disable it in bios. You do not want an external card - you want a PCI sound card.

you can get a usb or fire wirecard, try m-audio.
I have one and its kicks the **** out of my old xtreme, I needed phantom power for condensor mics, And more inputs,outputs and midi to hook my keyboard,drum machine up.
Creative also makes them under the name e-mu.

But i think your confused internal and onboard are different, internal would be anything in the case and onboard would be on the motherboard.

The best external soundcard you can get right now is the E-MU 0404 USB. It has all the analog outs, digital out, supports 44.1KHz playback, and has a DAC that rivals those found in $300+ standalone DACs. They run about $150 to $200. Oh yeah, they also have an excellent headphone amp built in. Its probably one of the better external soundcards out there. I seen M-Audio recommended above, and they make great USB soundcards as well. The Audiophile USB and Audiophile Firewire are both excellent units, and will run you about $120 to $150.
