Ok, I am building my very first PC and I am having problems, naturally. Here is a link to the motherboard that I have...here. (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/Product/motherboard_detail.aspx?ID=en-us0000185)

The computer is running fine, but when I go to my display properties, I only have 2 options, 2 bit or 16 bit color. And the resolution is low also and can't be modified. This is VGA I assume. Where do I need to go to download the necessary software to 'fix' this? My OS is Windows 98 and the monitor I have is a Compaq V70.

Are you using the onboard graphics and do you have the CD that came with the motherboard?

Yes, onboard graphics. The autorun feature of the CD that came with it isn't compatible with Windows 98, unfortunately. But I did go into it and manually install the VGA drivers. However, there were some errors. I don't really recall exactly what happened to tell the truth.

Sounds like Foxconn didn't bother with drivers for 98 and the fact that it won't auto run is a bit of a giveaway, time to upgrade to a new OS or step back in time and find an old graphics card that will fit that board.

Yeah, that's what I figured. BUT, in the driver files for the display, there IS a folder titled WIN98. ???

You can get the video driver from foxconn or from SIS.

Old driver is really hard to find.

Yeah, that's what I figured. BUT, in the driver files for the display, there IS a folder titled WIN98. ???You could force the issue by telling the driver wizard where to look and then forcing it to install whatever is in the 98 folder, is there an ME folder?

edit...are you using 98 or 98SE?

Plain old 98. And it boots super fast on this new machine too. lol.

I am sure it does.
If that 98 folder can't help then like Amigo says try trawling around the Foxconn site or SIS site to see if there are any drivers available although I very much doubt it.
You could try the www.driverguide.com do a search for SIS drivers and just try anything that is a near match to your chipset, you can't make matters worse.

The drivers at the Foxconn site say they are for 98.
